Missed flight in Chicago
After missing their flight to London the 9 Italiano missionaries finally arrived in Rome. Mitchell has been assigned to Napoli (Naples) with a population of about 1 million. We hope to get a mailing address soon.

Off to Chicago, London, Rome
Mitchell heads to Italy tomorrow (Tuesday 6/28). He flies through Chicago and London before getting to Rome! It's going to be a long trip without an IPOD!
Don't open the box ...
Family and Friends,
Well everyone, I am officially leaving the States for 22 months for Italia. I am very excited to leave and serve the people in Italia. I leave in like 8 hours so the letter is very short. I hope everyone is doing well at home and I hope to hear from people in Italia.
Anziano Hosford
Don't open the box I sent home. Its just mission memories so far. Sorry for the short letter. I am calling tomorrow so it makes up for the letter. I will send the next letter from somewhere in Italia. Love everyone at home. Anziano Hosford

Last letter from the MTC
Family and Friends,
Well this is my last letter from the MTC. I am leaving for
Italia on June 28. I am sooo excited to leave this place. I will miss the people and the sweet spirit
here. My Italiano is still progressing
but I am no where near fluent. There isn’t much going on here other than a
mission president’s seminary. One-third
of the world’s mission presidents are at the MTC along with many of the
apostolic and the first presidency. We get a special devotional of Friday with
a general authority and again on Sunday. It is a very exciting time to be here.
In just a few days I will know where I will be serving in
Italy. My teachers think Sardenia. Which is an island off of Italy.
I am sending a CD of photos home. It has about 200 photos from the last few
weeks here at the MTC. The cookies you sent were really good. I really wish you were here so I could ask
more temple questions. The one I am most
curious about is Facsimile #2 page 36 in the Pearl of Great Price. Well, it’s confusing me.
I have a ton of stories in my journal. When I skype home on Tuesday you can meet my
companion. Capite?
Love, Anziano Hosford
Dear Mom and Dad,
I hope things are well at home. I don't have a lot of time to write today. I still need to do laundry, email, pack, and I think that's it. I made a copy of about 200 pictures from my remaining time here in the MTC, except for my last week. I will get the CD as soon as it is finished and mail it home.
The cookies were really good. I would say don't worry about the calling card since I can call anyone with my Itouch and if I can't I have another card. However, a third option won't hurt. So I really wish both of you were here for temple questions. The one I am most curious about is facsimile #2, page 36 in the Pearl of Great Price. From that Figure 8. Well it's confusing to me. I have a ton of stories in my journal. A lot of this I will explain in person when I get home. When I skype home on Tuesday you can meet my companion. Capite? Well, I will tell you more on Tuesday.
Sincerely, Anziano Hosford

Direct and indirect objects
Friends and Family,
So Week 7 is done here and only 13 more days till I will be in Italia. So the language is still progressing. We learned about direct and indirect object and pronouns. This is by far the most challenging to learn. I understand the principles I just have no idea how to completely use them. I am not worried about it. Stuff like that comes in time. Its hard to believe today is Day 50 here. It feel like last week I was swimming in Key West. Well yesterday at devotional we had a Rosemary Wixom, the Church's primary president come and speak to us. We have also had Elder Nelson and Elder Anderson speak to us in the past weeks. It's cool, my last week here is the mission presidents seminar and they are shutting down parts of campus for it since most, if not all the apostoli will be here. Then for our last devotional here we will have one of them speak to us. So it's going to be quite the end here. I just got over a cough, sore throat, a bruised quad, and a stuffy nose. My left leg and right ankle are really hurting from playing on the field here since its not flat and it has lumps and bumps all over it. Well, the good news is that doesn't matter because I am in the service of my God. I hope everyone is doing well at home.
Sincerely, Anziano Hosford
p.s. I get my travel plans tomorrow!

Family and Sunny,
I hope everyone is doing well. My district is interesting -- everyone talks in a hick tone and goofs off a lot. It is very annoying. I feel like I am the only one trying to study and give my best.
Some things have gotten better, my Italiano for example. Also some of the relationships with those more serious about studying. Like the one elder I told you about in the last letter. We have a mutual respect for each other.
My district is a joke most days. I really wanted a companion who is a hard worker. Mine goofs off all the time. I try and set an example for everyone. Whenever anyone asks I give freely. Its not that I don't care how they do, but I just started focusing on myself and whenever they are ready to get serious about the mission I am here for them. We won't be at the same level is the only problem. They are bad about keeping our district goals and it makes me sad.
I had a dream that I got to Italia and I just felt so stupid because I didn't know anything and that really motivated me to crack down. I hope things are going better at school and at home.
Love, Anziano Hosford
Mom and Dad,
Well I didn't get any letters from Mom this week. I hope all is well at home. I am jealous that you get to go to the pool. I would love the pool right now. I hear baby is quite the swimmer. I am glad to hear the missionaries are doing well there. I don't remember Elder Gubler. I never work with any other missionaries but Italiano ones. I hope Eve is ok. Sorry to hear she had quite the wipe out. I hope the Wheatleys are doing well. I have had plenty of opportunities to give blessings here. Whenever people ask how I am doing tell them to write to me. I love writing to people. I only write to about 4 people often. The family, Sunny (don't ask how long my last letter was), Margo McCall, and Jake. Sorry to hear the canoe was dented. Keep it and I will take it off your hands when I get back. I am planning on using it when I come home.
The Book of Mormon is a great book. I was sad to learn how incorrect the Bible actually is. The fact that is missing so much and especially those little key words is very sad. One day I will read the whole thing untampered. I was thinking about how missions are going to differ. I love the fact that I can teach anything I like. All I really have to do is find the soft spots of the people. I will teach through the spirit. I have a couple stories I will share when I get back.
Its safe to say this mission is quite the adventure and it really hasn't started. I got Dad's letter and I enjoyed them a lot. Looking forward to hearing more from everyone.

Russians vs Italians
Friends and Family,
Hey everyone. Week six in the MTC is done. Only like 20 more days until I head to Italia. So the language is going well. I am learning more combinations of words and just some little technical words. Well soccer here is pretty big thing. We always face the Russians and they always outnumber us. For example in soccer we have about 14 Italians that play against maybe 25 Russians. We always win for the most part as well. Also there are over 100 Russians in the MTC and only 16 Anziani e Sorelle. Well today we got 21 new Italiano missionaries. We are very excited to have them here. So last week while we were playing we got attacked by a swarm of bees. I am talking like multiple waves of bee flying all over our field. It was incredible and kind of terrifying. I am pretty good at teaching in Italiano well at least the first discussion and we will see how the next ones come. Well not much else to say for at least another 20 days. If you do write me a hand letter send it no later than June 23rd or it will probably be here when I am in Italia. I hope everyone is doing well at home.
Sincerely, Anziano Hosford

Missing Smoothie King
Friends and Family,
Hey everyone. I hope everyone is doing well. The MTC is treating me very well with the exception of the food here. Its very safe to say that I really miss Smoothie King. I am excited to leave here. Yesterday, Tuesday, was Day 35 and I leave here in 26 days. I have heard a lot of good things about the Italino cibo (food). I can't wait to get it. I am doing pretty well learning Italiano. I am trying to learn all 14 tenses. Its really hard and I might just wait until I get back before I bother learning them. So I have learned the first five discussions. I am teaching in all Italiano now. Its really hard, but I am able to survive. Honestly, there isn't a lot going on here. Nothing really changes much at the MTC. More news next week.
Sincerely,
Anziano Hosford
Mom and Dad
I always enjoy reading your dearelders. I am very excited to leave this place and teach the Italiano about the importance of family. Honestly I really want to write a lot and I no longer have a lot of time. I have been doing a great job writing in my journal and so I will be writing them in my journal and I will share them with you. Like the butterscotch tree. The stories you send me are kind of funny to read because natural disasters are a way that God talks to people. My class did some reading about the latter-day wars and there is some pretty scary stuff. Really shows the importance of family. Read Richard G. Scott's talk about the importance of eternal marriage and family and you will know why I want Amy and Megan temple-ready for when I come home. Trust me. I know the rules of the temple when I sent you that last letter. If you go forward about the stuff with Amy and Megan with 100% faith, no doubt or fear and you pray for God's help. Honestly it will happen. I am learning slowly here. Sounds like you have something to work on Woman. I have to polish shoes and nap some. Not sleeping very well here.
Love, Anziano Hosford
